Borussia Dortmund want to team up Phil Foden with England debutant Jadon Sancho in the Bundesliga, with RB Leipzig and Paris Saint-Germain also monitoring the Manchester City starlet.
Foden, 18, has been at City since the age of six and would still be expected to sign a new contract with the club when his current deal runs out in 2020.
But the level of interest in him on the continent is an indication of the Sancho effect, with German and French clubs knowing that they can offer young English players better opportunities to play in the first team.
Sancho is a direct contemporary of Foden’s and while the latter was the Golden Ball winner as the best player of the Under-17 World Cup, which England won, Sancho started on the bench.
But Sancho is now ahead of all his Under-17 team-mates, having made his senior England debut.
Sancho’s rise has come because at Dortmund he has started a Champions League game and featured in 10 matches overall this season, providing more assists than any other player in the top European Leagues.
