Barcelona are on the lookout for potential reinforcements in three positions: left-back, centre-back and striker.
The Catalans need depth on their bench to compete for all the major trophies next season and Ernesto Valverde wants to strengthen his squad.
Finding a left-back to provide cover for Jordi Alba remains a priority for the former Athletic Club coach, who preferred to use Nelson Semedo on the left-hand side rather than any of the team’s academy products.
Another position that may need to be strengthened is that of the centre-back, where Samuel Umtiti and Jean-Clair Todibo are the alternatives to Gerard Pique and Clement Legnlet.
Umtiti went through a campaign full of injuries that left him out of the squad for the large part of the season, while the youngster has a lot of potential but has to prove whether he is at the Blaugrana’s level.
Finally, a 32-year-old Luis Suarez is a player who will need to get some rest in the upcoming season.
Kevin-Prince Boateng was the Uruguayan’s backup after January, but he never provided the team with quality minutes.
Should Barcelona sign both Antoine Griezmann and Neymar, however, it’s rather unlikely that they will acquire players for all three of the aforementioned positions.
