Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe took aim at the referee while team-mate Julian Draxler had to be restrained in the tunnel after a humiliating 5-1 defeat to Lille.
Thomas Tuchel’s side had the chance to wrap up another Ligue 1 title but those plans quickly evaporated as the Parisians collapsed, before turning their anger towards the referee in the tunnel afterwards.
Mbappe was visibly seething coming off the pitch at the Stade Pierre Mauroy and coverage showed the French striker complaining about the referee.
‘This referee takes the Coupe de la Ligue from us, he takes our players from us, he takes everything,’ Mbappe said.
Draxler found himself raging as he was urged to calm down by goalkeeper Alphonse Areola as he made his feelings known to officials.
The German said: ‘We have VAR so why don’t you use it? Explain that to me!’One point away to Lille, who are second domestically, would have been enough to secure the title but it all quickly unraveled.
A frantic start to the game saw PSG equalise through Juan Bernat after an own goal from Thomas Meunier had given the hosts a surprise lead.
The game was finely poised at 1-1 with 10 minutes before half-time, only for referee Benoit Bastian to find himself making a decision that altered proceedings immeasurably.
Nicolas Pepe was racing through on goal following a through ball and after a tangle with goal scorer Bernat, the PSG defender was swiftly shown a straight red card, much to the annoyance of his team-mates who pleaded his innocence.
Tuchel’s side collapsed in the second half with goals from Pepe, Jonathan Bamba, Gabriel and Jose Fonte inflicting PSG’s heaviest league defeat since 2010.
