Arsenal face struggle to complete £25m transfer after fresh demand is made

Arsenal manager Unai Emery is desperate to bolster his defensive ranks this summer after a disappointing campaign at the Emirates.

The Gunners will have to make do without Champions League next season after failing to finish in the Premier League’s top four.

Emery is preparing for a huge squad overhaul this summer as he looks to return the club to their heydays, but he won’t be given a huge transfer war chest.

The Spanish manager has made signing a new defender his priority and has a number of targets on his shortlist.

Among them is highly-rated Saint Etienne defender William Saliba, who has enjoyed a stunning break season in France.

The defender made 19 appearances in all competitions the past season and was recently rewarded with a new four-year contract.

Arsenal have been keeping tabs on his development but may be put off by the £25million price tag slapped on the 18-year-old.

Saint Etienne are in no mood to sell and reportedly want him back on loan for the next campaign if they are to part ways with their starlet.

That may ruin the move for Arsenal, who are keen to sign a defender who can immediately fight for a first-team spot.

Reports in France have also claimed that the north Londoners face competition to bring him to the Premier League this summer.

It has been claimed that Manchester City and Manchester United are both considering a rival bid.

And according to Peuple-Vert.fr , Saliba’s agent Djibril Niang was recently seen in Manchester, posting several videos on his Instagram account.

It could well be that the agent is just enjoying a short break, but it has fuelled speculation that Arsenal may struggled to sign him.
